Introduction

Welcome to Friend Aura. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our mobile application (“App”).

TL;DR: We don’t collect, store, or share your personal data. Everything stays on your device and in your private iCloud account.

Information Collection and Storage

What We Collect

Currently: Nothing.

Friend Aura is designed with privacy at its core. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal information on our servers. All data you create in the App—including:

  • Names and contact information you add
  • Ratings and scores
  • Emoji reactions
  • Notes and memories
  • Theme preferences
  • Security settings (PIN, Face ID/Touch ID preferences)
  • Any other content you create

…is stored locally on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account if you have iCloud enabled.

Data Storage and Sync

  • Local Storage: All data is stored locally on your device using Core Data.
  • iCloud Sync: If you enable iCloud on your device, your data is automatically synced across your Apple devices using CloudKit. This sync is handled entirely by Apple’s infrastructure, and we never have access to your iCloud data.
  • No Third-Party Servers: We do not operate any servers that collect, store, or process your personal information.

Future Data Collection

We may introduce optional, anonymous usage analytics in future versions of the App to help us understand how features are used and improve the user experience. If we implement analytics:

  • Data collection will be anonymous and will not identify you personally
  • We will collect only aggregated usage statistics (e.g., which features are used, crash reports)
  • You will be informed via an App update and this Privacy Policy
  • Where possible, we will provide an opt-out mechanism

We will update this Privacy Policy before implementing any analytics features.

Face ID and Touch ID

The App uses Apple’s LocalAuthentication framework to enable Face ID or Touch ID for app security. This biometric data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is processed entirely by Apple’s secure system
  • Is never accessible to us or transmitted anywhere
  • Is only used to unlock the App when you enable this security feature

Third-Party Services

Apple iCloud

If you choose to enable iCloud on your device, your App data is synced using Apple’s CloudKit service. This data:

  • Is encrypted by Apple
  • Remains in your personal iCloud storage
  • Is subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy
  • Is never accessible to us

Apple In-App Purchases

The App uses Apple’s StoreKit framework for managing subscriptions and in-app purchases. Apple may collect payment and transaction information according to their Privacy Policy.

Data Security

Your data security is important to us:

  • All data is stored locally on your device with the security protections provided by iOS
  • iCloud sync uses end-to-end encryption via CloudKit
  • You can enable PIN, Face ID, or Touch ID protection to secure the App on your device
  • We recommend using a strong device passcode and enabling the App’s security features

Data Retention and Deletion

  • You control your data: All data remains on your device and in your iCloud account
  • Deleting data: When you delete entries or information in the App, it is removed from your device and iCloud
  • Uninstalling the App: When you delete the App from your device, local data is removed. iCloud data may persist in your iCloud account and can be managed through your iCloud settings
  • We cannot delete your data because we never have access to it

Your Rights

Since we don’t collect or store your personal data:

  • You have complete control over your data at all times
  • Your data never leaves your Apple ecosystem (device + iCloud)
  • You can export, delete, or modify your data directly within the App
  • No data is shared with third parties

Children’s Privacy

Friend Aura does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age. The App is not directed at children, and we recommend parental supervision for users under 18.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly if we introduce new features or data practices. We will notify you of any material changes by:

  • Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
  • Providing notice within the App or via the App Store update notes
  • For significant changes, we may require your acknowledgment

California Privacy Rights

Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, California residents may request information about the disclosure of personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes. Since we do not collect, store, or share any personal information, this does not apply to Friend Aura.

GDPR Compliance (European Users)

For users in the European Economic Area:

  • Data Controller: There is no data controller because we do not collect personal data
  • Legal Basis: Not applicable—no personal data is processed by us
  • Your Rights: You have full control over your data within your Apple ecosystem
  • Data Transfers: No data is transferred to us or any third parties

Governing Law
